What is Herpes Simplex?

This viral infection is the result of HSV-1 and HSV-2 virus and it can move from an infected person with herpes outbreaks to another by direct contact. The type 1 HSV is the causative agent for herpes infections in the eyes, face, mouth, throat and even in the brain, while the type 2 HCV causes infections in the anogential area. The type 2 HSV infection does not always show any signs or symptoms.

There is no real cure, this virus remains in your body, although dormant, it may act up again and result in the same physical symptoms. Additionally, placental transmission is possible especially if the mother is highly infected with herpes viruses. The percentage of newborns who have this is around 60%-80% and is all because the mothers did not even know they had the infection because of the lack of symptoms.

Indications Of Herpes Simplex:

-Blisters and sores. Commonly found in the mouth, lips, gums, and genital areas.

-Cold sores

-Enlarged lymph nodes in groin or neck. This usually happens when the infection is just starting.

-Hyperthermia It maybe mild to moderate, but this normally occurs during the initial stage of infection.

-Tingling and burning sensations of genital lesions.

What is Herpes Zoster?

Shingles, aka herpes zoster, has Varicella, the same agent that leads to chicken pox, and is a viral infection that is extremely contagious. The reason for this is that inactive Varicella virus becomes active again.

Signs And Symptoms:

-Commonly on only one side of the body, you will first have red patches, then they will turn into blisters. The blisters come in different sizes, from small to huge. It is normal for the rashes to be gone within 2-4 weeks and may or may not leave a scar.

-The blisters may be agonizing.

The most commonly prescribed antiviral drugs to treat the symptoms are Acyclovir (Zovirax), Famciclovir (Famvir), and Valacyclovir (Valtrex). These drugs work best for herpes outbreaks that last a long time as well as recurrences. To relieve pain, analgesics are prescribed.
